Julia and Jacques

Aaah, a match made in …?  Well, we’re not sure where but we do know two things for certain. One: These night and day, black and white, you say tomatoe I say tomato apparent mismatch are one of the most enjoyable, entertaining duos ever to hit the airwaves. And, two: we are infinitely  grateful they did team up!

Julia thought of Jacques as one of the greatest chefs in America, and Jacques adored Julia thoroughly.  However, one of the great things about the series, and their friendship, is that neither stepped back in deference to the other’s methods, styles or beliefs.

Who will ever forget watching the Julia and Jacques Cooking at Home show and laughing hysterically as Jacques tried hopelessly to pull a wine bottle out of Julia’s hand as she was adding what was meant to be a cup of  red wine into a recipe. It ended up being the entire bottle, accompanied by that lovable sing-song voice shooing Jacques away … "ooh, a little extra red wine never hurt anything…"  I was a fan of her cooking prior to this show, but I became a diehard fan of Julia  as entertainer after addictively watching this series.  The Julia and Jacques Cooking at Home Cookbook is a reminder of how stellar their recipes were, but nothing can compare to the sheer delight of watching this down to earth madam of awesome stature play at cooking with the diminutive, precise Frenchman Jacques Pepin. The Julia and Jacques Cooking at Home DVD is also fantastic, and still available.  I advise anyone who is a fan to pick both of these up while they still can.
